MIDDLEBORO, Mass. - March 10, 2008 - Camp Avoda, the oldest Jewish boys camp in New England, announced today that Ken Shifman has been named Director. In this role he will oversee several important aspects of the Camp including programming, staff management and recruiting. Ken spent 11 summers at Avoda from 1980-1990 as both a camper and counselor. Most recently he has worked as a technology and marketing consultant and has served as a youth-sports director guiding and coaching kids in the greater Boston area. Ken will work closely with Paul G. Davis, Avoda’s long-time Director, who was promoted to Executive Director this past October.
Commenting on the hiring, Jim Singer, President of the Camp Avoda Board of Directors said, "I am extremely pleased that our search process led us to Ken. I cannot think of an individual better suited to help guide Avoda. His poise, energy and creativity combined with his knowledge and love for Avoda make him the perfect candidate. With Paul and Ken at the helm, I am very enthusiastic about the future of Avoda."
Paul added, "I have known Ken Shifman for a long time, literally watching him grow up over the years, and I have always been impressed by his insight and his character. I think he will be a tremendous asset to Avoda, and I look forward to working closely with him for many years to come."
Ken currently serves as a Director of Account Services at Equifax Marketing Solutions in Wakefield Mass. He is also a youth sports director and business manager for "Ahead of the Game" in Waltham, Mass., and a coordinator for "Games Galore" through Elementary After School Education in Needham, Mass. Both organizations run successful after school and special events programs for youths. In that capacity Ken also runs training seminars for coaches, counselors and summer leaders. Ken lives in Needham, Mass., with his wife Jill and sons Ethan, 7 and Alex, 5, two future Avodians.
"There are few places in the world that are as dear to me as Avoda, and I consider it an honor to have this opportunity to serve as the Director," said Ken. "Avoda is an amazing place with great values and deep traditions. I look forward to working with the Board of Directors, Paul, the administration, the staff and the entire Avoda community to continue to build upon the strong foundation of this incredible camp that has enriched the lives of so many."
